NCDOT Awards Contract to Replace Washed-Out Bridge on Beam Lumber Road Tuesday, June 10, 2014

SHELBY -- The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to replace the Beam Lumber Road bridge over Indian Creek in Lincoln County that was washed out from severe flooding last July.

Clark Ledbetter Construction was awarded the $466,919 contract for the bridge replacement project. Construction is expected to begin this month.

The old bridge on Beam Lumber Road was a two-span bridge with an interior bent in the water. The new bridge, however, will completely span over the creek. The debris from last year’s storm knocked out the interior piles of the previous bridge, taking the rest of the bridge with it. The new, one-span bridge is designed to prevent a similar washout from happening again.

The project is expected to be completed in late September.
