NCDOT Will Temporarily Close Lanes On Idlewild Road In Charlotte Over Two Weekends Monday, June 09, 2014

 

CHARLOTTE – Weather permitting, The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close lanes on Idlewild Road between Monroe Road and Independence Boulevard over the next two weekends. The closures are part of the $51 million widening project to convert Independence Boulevard to an expressway between Sharon Amity Road and Wallace Lane.

 

The following closures are scheduled so crews can continue utility work on the project:

 

8 p.m. Friday, June 13 – 6 a.m. Monday, June 16:

Idlewild Road will be closed in both directions between Monroe Road and Independence Boulevard. One southbound lane will also be closed on Idlewild Road between Cedars East Court and Independence Boulevard.

 

  • Motorists approaching from Independence Boulevard:  Take Independence Boulevard to Sharon Amity Road to Monroe Road back to Idlewild Road/Rama Road.

 

  • Motorists approaching from Monroe Road:  Take Monroe Road to Sharon Amity Road to Independence Boulevard back to Idlewild Road.

 

 

8 p.m. Friday, June 20 – 6 a.m. Monday, June 23:

Idlewild Road will be closed in both directions between Cedars East Court and Independence Boulevard.

 

  • Motorists approaching from Independence Boulevard:  Take Independence to Sharon Amity Road to Monroe Road back to Idlewild Road/Rama Road.

 

  • Motorists approaching from Monroe Road:  Take Monroe Road to Sharon Amity Road to Independence Boulevard to Idlewild Road.

 

  • Northbound Idlewild Road and East Bound Independence:  Take East Bound Independence to W.T. Harris Boulevard back to Idlewild Road.

 

  • Southbound Idlewild Road to West Bound Independence Boulevard:  Take Idlewild Road to W.T. Harris Boulevard to Albemarle Road to Independence Boulevard.

 

  • Southbound Idlewild Road to East Bound Independence Boulevard:  Take Idlewild Road to W.T. Harris Boulevard to Independence Boulevard.

 

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
