CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close Sharon Amity Road between Independence Boulevard and Pierson Drive from 8 p.m. Friday, May 30, until 6 a.m. Monday, June 2, weather permitting. The closure is part of the $51 million widening project to convert Independence Boulevard to an expressway between Sharon Amity Road and Wallace Lane.
The lane closure is necessary for crews to complete tying in a new waterline along Sharon Amity Road. The following detours will be posted for motorists:
- Sharon Amity Road southbound: Albemarle Road to Independence Boulevard to Wendover Road to Monroe Road back to Sharon Amity Road.
- Sharon Amity Road northbound: Monroe Road to Wendover Road to Independence Boulevard to Albemarle Road back to Sharon Amity Road.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
