RALEIGH — On Saturday, May 10, crews with the N.C. Department of Transportation will begin repair work on the N.C. 11 bridge over the Cape Fear River in Riegelwood. The bridge was damaged Monday night when an oversized piece of equipment hit several cross beams.

An emergency contract has been awarded to a contractor that will heat-straighten and replace damaged beams.

Weather permitting, the repairs will last 10 days. Motorists should follow the posted detour of N.C. 53 to N.C. 701 to N.C. 87 during the closure.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. Updated travel information is also available by calling 511 or online at www.ncdot.gov/travel. In addition, NCDOT now offers travel information on Twitter.
