Bridge Replacement Project Begins April 29 on Darden Farm Road in Greene and Pitt Counties Wednesday, April 23, 2014

RALEIGH — On Tuesday, April 29, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close a section of Darden Farm Road to replace two bridges over Middle Swamp near Winterville. The work is scheduled to be complete in 180 days, weather permitting.

NCDOT is making strategic investments to repair and replace substandard bridges to provide better access across the state to fuel economic growth.

Darden Farm Road will be closed to through traffic and during construction motorists should follow the posted detour of U.S. 13, Holloman Farm Road and Willow Green Road to avoid the closure.

The bridges, constructed in 1971 and 1975, are part of a $998, 909 contract awarded to S.T. Wooten.

The existing bridges are reaching the end of their life cycles and need to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.
