CHARLOTTE – Weather permitting, The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close the right eastbound lane on Independence Boulevard between Albemarle Road and Sharon Amity Road from 8 p.m. Thursday, April 24 until 6 a.m. Friday, April 25. The closure is part of the $51 million widening project to convert Independence Boulevard to an expressway between Sharon Amity Road and Wallace Lane.
The lane closure is necessary for crews to tie in new water services to businesses in the project corridor. Two westbound lanes will remain open to traffic.
A separate waterline project will require closing Idlewild Road in both directions between Independence Boulevard and Cedars East Court from 8 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday, April 28. Traffic will be detoured along Independence Boulevard, Harris Boulevard and Albemarle Road.
