Winners of the state’s four regional competitions are held in suspense

Raleigh—They have tested, researched, drafted their blueprints… and tested again.   Middle and High School Bridge Building clubs, as well as science and math classes statewide, have now completed the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s four regional bridge building competitions.  Winners from each region will now go head-to-head at the final competition scheduled for Friday, April 11 at the NCDOT Transportation Building in Raleigh.

The winners are as follows:

Region One:
Middle School – West Craven Middle School
High School – Camden High School

Region Two:
Middle School – Exploris
High School – Franklin Academy

Region Three:
Middle School – High Fall Elementary
High School—North Moore High School

Region Four:
Middle School—Polk County Middle School
High School—Polk County High School

The competition is designed to create a greater awareness of careers in and services provided by the transportation industry.   Though the competition emphasizes the development of math and science skills, it also provides an opportunity to use problem-solving strategies, critical thinking, enhance communication skills and apply research and presentation skills.
