CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close the right westbound lane on Independence Boulevard between Farmingdale Drive and Sharon Amity Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 1, weather permitting. The closure is part of the $51 million widening project to convert Independence Boulevard to an expressway between Sharon Amity Road and Wallace Lane.

Crews with Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities will be inspecting water valves in preparation for future work associated with the project. Two westbound lanes will remain open to traffic.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
