RALEIGH — On Monday, Jan. 20, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close a section of Stantonsburg Road in order for crews with S.T. Wooten Corporation to replace the bridge over Little Contentnea Creek near Farmville. The bridge is scheduled to reopen May 19, weather permitting.
The bridge, which was constructed in 1961, is classified as structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. This means the bridge is safe, but it needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.
Motorists should use U.S. 258 and Toddy Road during the closure.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. Updated travel information is also available by calling 511 or online at www.ncdot.gov/travel. In addition, NCDOT now offers travel information on Twitter.
