Bridge Preservation Work Underway on I-73/U.S. 220 in Randolph County Tuesday, January 14, 2014

RALEIGH — Work is underway on an N.C. Department of Transportation bridge preservation project on I-73/U.S. 220 over the Deep River in Randleman.

The $1.7 million project was awarded to Olympus Painting Contractors Inc. of Tarpon Springs, Fla. and consists of periodic nighttime lane closures between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., weather permitting.

Work on these bridges is scheduled to be complete by Aug. 15. Crews will clean and paint structural steel in addition to repairing some of the girders.

This bridge preservation project is a vital investment in the state’s transportation infrastructure. The work will improve the overall condition of the bridges and is expected to extend their lifespan by as much as 10 years.
