CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will begin a $684,000 project to replace the bridges on Charlie Williams Road and Sandy Ridge Road over Little Richardson Creek southwest of Monroe at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, weather permitting.
Contractor Smith Rowe, LLC will remove each bridge, install new guardrail, and improve the approaches to both bridges. The contractor will first close the bridge on Charlie Williams Road, completing its replacement by May 15. Once this bridge opens to traffic, the contractor will move to the bridge on Sandy Ridge Road. This replacement must be completed by Sept. 12.
Motorists should follow these posted detours during the closures:
- Charlie Williams Road: Follow to Medlin Road, Troy Medlin Road and Stack Road back to Charlie Williams Road.
- Sandy Ridge Road: Follow to Bruce Thomas Road and Stack Road back to Sandy Ridge Road.
