NCDOT will Intermittently Close Lanes on Independence Boulevard in Charlotte This Week Monday, December 16, 2013

Closures are part of Independence Boulevard widening project

CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close eastbound lanes on Independence Boulevard in Charlotte tonight at 10 p.m., weather permitting. The closures are part of the $51 million widening project to convert Independence Boulevard to an expressway between Sharon Amity Road and Wallace Lane.

Crews will be hanging girders for the future bridge carrying Conference Drive over Independence Boulevard, which requires closing the eastbound lanes. Traffic will be detoured from Independence Boulevard to Idlewild Road to Monroe Road to Wallace Lane.  All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17. Crews will close the eastbound lanes from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 18, to continue girder placement.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
