Detour will be posted as crews install girders for I-85/I-485 turbine interchange
CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation this week will continue work on the I-85/I-485 interchange conversion in northeast Charlotte, as crews prepare to install additional bridge girders for the state’s first turbine interchange.
Beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, crews will close I-85 North at I-485 (Exit 48), detouring traffic to the I-485 Inner Loop to U.S. 29 (Exit 32). Motorists can turn left on U.S. 29 to go over the interstate, then turn left to get on the Outer Loop back to I-85 North. The detour will be removed by 5 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18. Weather permitting, the closure will resume from 10 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19.
