Bridge Maintenance to Close Lane on U.S. 74 in New Hanover County Next Week Friday, December 13, 2013

RALEIGH —Work begins next week on an N.C. Department of Transportation bridge maintenance project on the U.S. 74 bridge over Smith Creek and Twenty Third Street in Wrightsboro, weather permitting.

Crews will have the westbound U.S. 74 right lane closed from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18 and Thursday, Dec. 19 as they replace a crash attenuator. The crash attenuator is a device used to reduce the damage to structures, vehicles and motorists due to a collision. They are designed to redirect vehicles away from the side of the bridge.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. Updated travel information is also available by calling 511 or online at www.ncdot.gov/travel. In addition, NCDOT now offers travel information on Twitter.
