Bridge Replacement on Short Bridge Road in Pitt County Starts Tuesday Friday, December 06, 2013

RALEIGH —Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Dec. 10 on an N.C. Department of Transportation bridge replacement project on Short Bridge Road south of Falkland.

In addition to a new bridge, the project also calls for improvements to the roadway on both sides of the bridge. The project should be completed by April 8, 2014.

During the closure, motorists should use Kings Crossroad Road and N.C. 43.

The existing bridge, which was built in 1948, is deemed structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. This means the bridge is safe, but it needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. Updated travel information is also available by calling 511 or online at www.ncdot.gov/travel. In addition, NCDOT now offers travel information on Twitter.
