Additional work at Bruton Smith Boulevard interchange Friday night
CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation tonight will continue work on the 6.8-mile I-85 widening project to expand the interstate from four to eight lanes from south of Bruton Smith Boulevard (Exit 49) to north of N.C. 73 (Exit 55) in Concord. Crews will continue bridgework near Exit 55, requiring temporary closures on I-85 in both directions.
Beginning at 9 p.m., crews will close the right lane on I-85 North and South near N.C. 73. At midnight, I-85 will be temporarily closed in both directions until 6 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22. Motorists will be directed up and over the N.C. 73 ramps during the closure.
In addition, crews will shift traffic at 10 p.m. Friday to a new pattern where Bruton Smith Boulevard meets I-85. The existing loop ramp from Bruton Smith Boulevard to I-85 South will close, as will the right lane on I-85 South at Exit 49 until 6 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23. These closures will ensure a safe transition to the new traffic pattern.
