NCDOT to Replace Bridge on Jackson Hill Road in Davidson County Thursday, November 14, 2013

RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation will close Jackson Hill Road near the intersection with South Main Street Extension in Davidson County at 7 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, weather permitting, to replace the bridge over Cabin Creek. The new bridge is expected to be complete by April 7, 2014.

Jackson Hill Road will be closed to through traffic during construction of the new bridge. Local traffic will be able to access homes and business from either end of Jackson Hill Road, but will not be able to pass beyond the closure points on either side of Cabin Creek.

Through traffic should use the following signed detour route during the closure:

  • Jackson Hill Road to South Main Street Extension to N.C. 8 to Surratt Road back to Jackson Hill Road.

The existing bridge was built in 1962 and is reaching the end of its life cycle. This means the bridge is safe, but it needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.  The new bridge will accommodate all traffic, including trucks and emergency vehicles, as it will not be subject to the load restrictions of the current bridge.
