Bridge replacement will close a section of Wesley Chapel Road in Stanly County Wednesday Tuesday, September 24, 2013

Current bridge over Curl Tail Creek will be updated

CHARLOTTE – In an effort to decrease cost and maintenance, the N.C. Department of Transportation is replacing the existing bridge on Wesley Chapel Road in Misenheimer, near the Pfeiffer University campus.

The bridge, located north of U.S. 52, will be replaced beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, weather permitting.  Motorists will be detoured along U.S. 52 and Reeves Island Road until the bridge opens Dec. 20.

This project is part of the department’s State-Funded Bridge Improvement Program to improve the overall condition of the state’s bridges. The department is investing $830 million over four years to strategically perform preservation or rehabilitation work when possible. In this instance, replacing the bridge is a more feasible investment.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. Know before you go by calling 511, the department’s free travel information line, or get real-time travel information online.
