RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation will close the Wil-Cox Bridge, which carries U.S. 29/70 over the Yadkin River in Spencer, to allow state inspectors to perform a biannual inspection of the bridge as required by federal law. The inspections allow NCDOT to ensure the bridges are structurally sound while meeting the needs of today’s drivers.
The bridge will be closed to traffic from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, and possibly on Thursday, Sept. 26. During the closure, motorists will use the following detour route:
Old Salisbury Road to N.C. 150 to I-85 South to Longs Ferry Road (Exit 81) to U.S. 29/70.
NCDOT encourages motorists in the area to use caution and allow extra time to reach their destinations.
