NCDOT to Replace Bridge on Ball Road in Davidson County Friday, September 13, 2013

RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation will close Ball Road near Old Greensboro Road in Davidson County at 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, weather permitting, to replace the bridge over Rich Fork Creek. The new bridge is expected to be complete by Friday, March 14, 2014.

Ball Road will be closed to through traffic during construction of the new bridge. Local traffic will be able to access homes and business from either end of Ball Road, but will not be able to pass beyond the closure points on either side of Rich Fork Creek.

Through traffic should use the following signed detour route during the closure:

  • Ball Road to Old Greensboro Road to Kanoy Road to Whitehart School Road back to Ball Road.

This project is part of the NCDOT’s $450 million state-funded bridge plan for 2011-13, which calls for preservation, repairs or replacement of bridges statewide.  The existing bridge was built in 1959 and is reaching the end of its life cycle. This means the bridge is safe, but it needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.  The new bridge will accommodate all traffic, including trucks and emergency vehicles, as it will not be subject to the load restrictions of the current bridge.
