RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation will close two of three lanes on I-85 South between mile markers 26 and 28 near Belmont from 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 to 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, for repairs to the Belmont/Mt. Holly Road bridge over I-85. The closures are necessary for crews to repair a beam supporting the southbound lanes damaged by large trucks traveling on I-85.
The Exit 27 on-ramp to I-85 South (N.C. 273) will be closed at this time. In order to get on I-85 South, N.C. 273 traffic must get on I-85 North to Sam Wilson Road (Exit 29) and enter back onto I-85 South. Both northbound lanes and one southbound lane on the Belmont/Mt. Holly Road bridge are open.
NCDOT urges motorists traveling through the work zone to go slow, pay attention to construction-related signs and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
