Project at Cabarrus Road intersection will enhance safety
CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will start work on an enhancement project on N.C. 24/27 (Albemarle Road) at Cabarrus Road in east Charlotte at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, weather permitting. The project will improve safety and mobility on N.C. 24/27, and is scheduled to be completed by November 8.
The project includes adding a left turn lane on N.C. 24/27 east of Cabarrus Road, and widening the outside lane on N.C. 24/27 West. This will allow motorists to make safer u-turns. A traffic signal will also be placed on N.C. 24/27 West approaching Clear Creek Elementary School. Concrete islands will be built in both directions to separate turn lanes from through lanes.
Crews are permitted to close or narrow lanes on N.C. 24/27 or Cabarrus Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. They can work at night or on weekends with department approval.
