Bridge replacement project will close a section of Jack Davis Road in Union County next week Tuesday, September 03, 2013

Detour will be posted for motorists during construction

CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will close Jack Davis Road between Wolf Pond Road and Armfield Mill Road south of Monroe at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, weather permitting.

Contractor Blythe Construction Inc. will replace the existing bridge over Buffalo Creek, which is now functionally obsolete and considered structurally deficient. The bridge is safe for motorists, but is not built to current design standards.

The $594,000 contract also includes installing guardrail and improving the road surface on the bridge and its approaches. Motorists should be able to drive on the new bridge by the end of December; vegetation establishment will continue through June 2014.

During construction, there will be a posted detour for motorists along Jack Davis Road, Armfield Mill Road, Jug Broome Road and Wolf Pond Road.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
