Repaving Work will Close Carolina Avenue in Statesville on Aug. 28-30 Monday, August 26, 2013

Work part of I-40/77 interchange improvement project

RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation will close a section of Carolina Avenue near Radio Road in Statesville on Aug. 28-30 for repaving as part of the I-40/77 interchange improvement project in Statesville.

The repaving will raise the height of Carolina Avenue and tie it in with Radio Road as part of the Radio Road bridge replacement. Weather permitting, the closure will begin at 9 a.m. on Aug. 28 and is scheduled to re-open late in the afternoon on Aug. 30.

A detour route has been set up for area traffic around the work zone:

n  Traffic heading on Radio Road from Hartness Road will take Virginia Avenue to Fulton Drive back to Carolina Avenue.

The Radio Road bridge area in Statesville has been closed for several months due to the bridge replacement over I-40. During the bridge construction, traffic has been detoured to N.C. 115 by way of Hartness Road and Museum Road to access I-40. The intersection of Radio Road, Gaither Road and Museum Road is temporarily a three-way stop during the bridge replacement. A Google map of the Radio Road detour can be found here.

The N.C. Department of Transportation reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. Follow the project on the NCDOT website (www.ncdot.gov/projects/i40i77Improvements) or on Twitter (#DOTStatesville) on NCDOT’s Eastern Mountain feed.
