COMMENTS:     Representatives from the N.C. Department of Transportation and Triangle Transit will be available to talk to media about the expansion of the Bus on Shoulder System (BOSS) operation into Wake County, effective Monday, Aug. 19.

BOSS allows buses on specific Triangle Transit routes to travel on designated interstate and primary route shoulders when traffic is moving at speeds less than 35 miles per hour.

BOSS began as a pilot project in July 2012 in Durham County on Interstate 40. The pilot was deemed a success and BOSS is now a permanent operation. It is being expanded along I-40 into Wake County to the Wade Avenue exit, and will continue on Wade Avenue to the Blue Ridge Road exit.
