Roper Springs Road Bridge in Halifax County Closed for Replacement Wednesday, July 24, 2013

RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation today closed the bridge on Roper Springs Road over Deep Creek east of Littleton in Halifax County to allow crews to begin replacing the 54 year-old bridge. The new bridge is expected to open to traffic by the end of November.

The bridge will be closed to through traffic while construction is taking place. A map of the project location and detour routes can be found here.
•    Westbound traffic will make a right on Summit Road, left on U.S. 158, left on Faulcon Road and a left on Justice Branch Road.

•    Eastbound traffic will make a right on Simmons Creek Road, left on Wright Road, left on Everetts School Road and left on N.C. 903.

Because of the condition of the bridge, NCDOT had posted a weight limit restricting single-axle vehicles weighing more than 19 tons and trucks weighing more than 28 tons from using the bridge. The new bridge will meet current design standards and will not have posted weight limits.

Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect delays. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
