NCDOT Awards Contract To Replace New Lebanon Church Road Bridge in Rockingham County Tuesday, July 16, 2013

RALEIGH — On Tuesday, July 23, weather permitting, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close New Lebanon Church Road near Huffines Mill Road in Rockingham County to replace the bridge over Little Jacobs Creek.

The $632,941 contract was awarded to Yates Construction Co. of Stokesdale in May and is scheduled to be completed no later than Nov. 15. Once the new bridge is open, the contractor will continue landscaping and vegetation work until May 14, 2014.

During construction of the new bridge, motorists will be instructed to use the following signed detour:
  • New Lebanon Church Road to N.C. 65 to Huffines Mill Road back to New Lebanon Church Road.
The existing timber bridge was built in 1958 and is considered structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. This means the bridge is safe, but it needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
