NCDOT Continues to Assess Roadways Damaged from Heavy Rains Tuesday, July 09, 2013

Crews are working to get roadways open safely and efficiently

CHARLOTTE – Several days of storms and heavy rains have compromised several roadways in the Charlotte region, resulting in closures and detours. The N.C. Department of Transportation has been assessing damage to determine necessary repairs and improvements.

Bridge crews and maintenance crews will be working over the next few weeks to address needs at each location. Each time frame is subject to change, if additional storms impede progress on repairs.

Mecklenburg County

·         Gilead Road: NCDOT will be contracting repairs, putting a contract out to bid

·         July 15. Repairs could begin the week of July 22 with a completion date of August 4;

·         Bud Henderson Road: The department is waiting for bids, anticipating a start date of July 20;

·         Autumncrest Road: Crews from NCDOT’s Monroe Bridge unit will begin replacing pipe July 10, with a scheduled completion by the end of next week.

Cabarrus County

·         Walker Road: Maintenance crews have started pipe replacement work, and expect to complete repairs by the end of next week;

·         Zion Church Road: NCDOT’s Anson Bridge unit is resetting pipe, also expecting to open the road by the end of next week;

·         John White Road: A pipe replacement is currently on order. Work will start immediately following its arrival;

·         Bowman-Barrier Road: NCDOT estimates beginning repairs at this location the week of July 22, which could change if a crew completes repairs at another location sooner; and

·         Harris Road: The department is waiting for return bids, anticipating a start date of July 20.

Stanly County

  • Bridgeport: NCDOT’s Stanly Bridge unit is currently making repairs, and should be finished by the end of this week;
  • Pole Running Road: A second Stanly Bridge unit has mobilized to repair eroded areas around the structure; a completion date has not been finalized;
  • Nelson Mountain Road: NCDOT will begin repairs when a crew becomes available;
  • Fink Road: Maintenance crews started pipe replacement this week; and
  • Canton Road: NCDOT is waiting for a recommendation from Raleigh’s Hydraulics unit to advise a correct size for a replacement structure.

While repairs continue, NCDOT advises motorists to follow posted detour signs and not attempt to drive around barricades. Weather conditions may impact the repair schedule at each location.
