NCDOT to Close Hart Road in Rowan County for Bridge Replacement Wednesday, July 03, 2013

RALEIGH — On Monday, July 15, weather permitting, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close Hart Road near Woodleaf in Rowan County to replace the bridge over Fourth Creek. The new bridge is expected to be complete by Wednesday, Dec. 11.

Hart Road will be closed to through traffic during construction of the new bridge. Local traffic will be able to access homes and business from either end of Hart Road, but will not be able to pass beyond the closure points on either side of Fourth Creek.

Through traffic should use the following signed detour route during the closure:
  • Cool Springs Road to Depot Road to N.C. 801 to Needmore Road to Hart Road.
This project is part of the NCDOT’s $450 million state-funded bridge plan for 2011-13, which calls for preservation, repairs or replacement of bridges statewide.

The existing bridge was built in 1962 and is reaching the end of its life cycle. This means the bridge is safe, but it needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.  The new bridge will not be subject to load restrictions of the existing bridge and will safely accommodate all traffic, including trucks and emergency vehicles.
