RALEIGH — Weather permitting, the N.C.
Department of Transportation will close a section of N.C. 211 in Southport
next Sunday for preservation work on the bridge over the Duke Energy Progress
Crews will close N.C. 211 between N.C. 87 and Dosher Cutoff SE each
night from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning, beginning Sunday, June 24.
With favorable weather, the work is expected to be completed by Monday morning,
During the closures, motorists should use the following signed
- N.C. 133 (Dosher Cutoff SE) to
N.C. 87 (River Road) back to N.C. 211 (N. Howe Street).
During preservation, a new sealant, called an epoxy overlay, will be
applied to the bridge deck. The epoxy overlay process involves a thorough
cleaning of the bridge deck. A liquid epoxy is then applied to the bridge
deck to seal any cracks. Finally, stone is placed across the bridge deck to
ensure excellent traction for vehicles. These enhancements will improve the
ride quality for motorists, as well as help the 41-year-old bridge last longer
by sealing and protecting the pavement from water damage.
NCDOT reminds motorists to use caution in the area, watch signs for
