NCDOT Awards Contract To Replace New Lebanon Church Road Bridge in Rockingham County Thursday, June 13, 2013

RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to replace the bridge on New Lebanon Church Road over Little Jacobs Creek in Rockingham County.
The $632,941 contract was awarded to Yates Construction Co., Inc. of Stokesdale. Work can begin as early as July 1, with completion scheduled for no later than Nov. 15. Once the bridge is open, the contractor will continue landscaping and vegetation work until May 14, 2014.

During construction of the new bridge, motorists will be instructed to use N.C. 65 as a detour.

The existing timber bridge was built in 1958 and is considered structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. This means the bridge is safe, but it needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.

This is one of 20 contracts totaling $165.1 million awarded by NCDOT in May for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The bids received on the projects awarded came in about 13.5 percent, or $25.8 million, below NCDOT estimates.
