RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation will close
N.C. 28 just below Fontana Dam in the Fontana community of Graham County for
several days during the month of June for bridge repair work.
The work will involve applying a new overlay to the deck of
the bridge on N.C. 28 over the Little Tennessee River.
The first closure will take place from Sunday, June 2, at 8
p.m. until Thursday, June 6, at 8 a.m.
The second closure will take place from Sunday, June 9, at 8
p.m. until Thursday, June 13, at 8 a.m.
The detour around the closure is Welch Road to Meadow Branch
Road to U.S. 129 back to N.C. 28.
The $1.6 million project contract was awarded to American
Contracting Services of Jeffersonville, Indiana.
