Crews Beginning Maintenance on I-40 Bridge in New Hanover County Wednesday, May 15, 2013

RALEIGH — Beginning Friday, May 17, N.C. Department of Transportation crews will begin maintenance work on the I-40 East bridge near mile marker 414 in Castle Hayne, weather permitting.

During the maintenance work, crews will intermittently close the right and left lanes on I-40 East between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to prepare cables to be replaced on the bridge on Sunday, May 19.

On Sunday, May 19, at 9:30 p.m., crews will close the bridge as crews replace cables over the CSX railroad tracks. Closures will take place nightly from 9:30 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. through Thursday, May 23.

Motorists traveling this stretch of I-40 East will should follow a signed detour using N.C. 210, U.S. 117 and Holly Shelter Road to avoid the closure.
