Tom Davis ACE Academy to be held at Liberty CDC June 17-21, 24-28
RALEIGH – There is still time for students in the Winston-Salem area to learn about aviation at the Tom Davis Aviation Career Education Academy, sponsored by the N.C. Department of Transportation Division of Aviation and the North Carolina Airports Association.
As many as 30 rising seventh- through ninth-graders can attend the middle school ACE camp June 17-21, while students going into grades 10-12 can attend the camp June 24-28. Both camps will be held at the Liberty Community Development Center, located at 1713 N. Liberty St. in Winston-Salem. The cost is $75 per student.
Students will learn about the theory of flight, aviation history, aircraft maintenance and new technologies. Attendees will study real-world aviation applications, aviation principles such as thrust and vectoring, and aircraft construction. They also will have the opportunity to fly radio-controlled aircraft and work on aircraft model design projects, as well as take field trips to aviation industry businesses.
