RALEIGH ? The N.C. Department of Transportation will permanently close the railroad crossing on U.S. 70 at the old fire station located between Bonner Avenue and 34th Street in Morehead City on May 2.
Signs alerting motorists of the closure have been posted for more than a year.
The fire station has been relocated; however, motorists can use Bonner Avenue or 34th Street to access the old facility, if necessary.
As part of NCDOT’s overall mission to promote safety for the state’s residents, when possible, the department works with communities to close or consolidate low volume or redundant crossings. Since 1993, NCDOT has closed more than 180 public at-grade rail crossings.
