NCDOT to Perform Bridge Deck Repairs This Weekend on Bellemont-Mount Hermon Road in Burlington Friday, April 19, 2013

RALEIGH — Weather permitting, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close one lane of Bellemont-Mount Hermon Road near Southern High School Road in Burlington this weekend perform to bridge deck repairs.

Work will resume at 7 p.m. tonight and will continue around the clock until early Monday morning. The bridge deck repair work will consist of milling, paving and concrete operations. During the work, flaggers will direct traffic and one lane will remain open at all times.

The work was originally scheduled to occur April 12-15, but was rescheduled due to weather.

This project is part of the NCDOT’s $450 million state-funded bridge plan for 2011-13, which calls for preservation, repairs or replacement of bridges statewide.  The existing bridge was built in 1957 and is considered functionally obsolete. This means the bridge is safe, but it needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.

NCDOT reminds motorists to stay alert, watch signs for construction information and obey the posted speed limit.
