CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will begin a $715,000 project to replace the bridge on Walkup Avenue over Ray’s Fork Creek east of Monroe at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, weather permitting.
Contractor Dellinger Inc. of Monroe will remove the bridge, install new guardrail, and improve the approaches to the bridge on Walkup Avenue. During construction, motorists will follow a posted detour from Walkup Avenue to Bivens Road to U.S. 74 (Roosevelt Boulevard) to Bivens Street to Old Williams Road back to Walkup Avenue.
The bridge should open to traffic October 2, while vegetation and reforestation work continues through March 20, 2014.
