Only emergency vehicles will be able to cross
RALEIGH –The entire U.S. 74/76 bridge in Wrightsville Beach will be closed to traffic beginning at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 until 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 24.
Traffic will be not be able to cross the bridge, except for emergency vehicles responding to an emergency. Law enforcement officers will be stationed on each end of the bridge during the closure.
In addition, motorists can continue to expect periodic lane closures throughout the length of the bridge rehabilitation project. Those lane closures will take place Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 7 a.m.
In October, traffic on the bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction, so crews can begin deck work on the westbound side of the bridge. Also, motorists and residents can anticipate additional overnight closures before the project is complete in spring 2014. Once these closures are scheduled, information will be distributed and placed on changeable message boards near the project and on the project website.
