One Lane of I-26 West to Close for Two Weeks in Henderson County Beginning April 7 for Bridge Work Wednesday, April 03, 2013

RALEIGH — Beginning the night of Sunday, April 7, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close one lane of Interstate 26 West at Mile Marker 56 in Henderson County for approximately two weeks, weather permitting, to perform work on the Peter Guice Bridge over the Green River.

During the work, all trucks westbound on I-26 must use the posted detour of S.C. Hwy 11 at Exit 5 in South Carolina to U.S. 25 North back to I-26. No trucks will be permitted on I-26 West beyond Exit 67 in Columbus.

Cars will be allowed across the Peter Guice Bridge but the lane will be narrowed due to nature of the work.

The closures are necessary in order for crews to replace the bridge joints, which have deteriorated over time. The $1.2 million project contract was awarded to Buckeye Construction of Canton.
