CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will permanently close a section of Corban Avenue between Cabarrus Avenue and Scott Street in Concord at 9 a.m. Monday, March 25, weather permitting. The closure is part of a $4.5 million project to replace the bridge carrying Cabarrus Avenue over the Southern Railway.
Contractor Blythe Development will replace the existing bridge, install guardrail and pedestrian handrails, and will install traffic signals at the intersection of Cabarrus Avenue and Powder Street.
During construction, lane closures will not be permitted on Cabarrus Avenue from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some night work possible. The contractor will keep traffic in a two-lane, two-way pattern during lane closures.
The bridge replacement is scheduled to be completed next spring. The contractor can continue planting, reforestation and vegetation establishment work through the fall of 2015.
