$2.9 million contract includes two bridges in Mecklenburg County and one in Anson County
CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will begin preservation work to three bridges Monday, April 1, located on West Boulevard and South Tryon Street in Charlotte, and on U.S. 74 West at the Anson-Richmond County line.
Contractor Lanford Brothers Co. Inc. of Roanoke, Va. will mill up the existing pavement on each bridge and replace it with a latex modified concrete overlay. This application improves ride quality, skid resistance, and surface appearance. This material also helps keep water from collecting under the bridge deck.
The $2.9 million project also includes making any necessary substructure repairs to each bridge, and painting structural steel. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
The contractor plans to start work on the West Boulevard and South Tryon bridges over Norfolk Southern Railroad first, then will mobilize to the bridge on U.S. 74. Lane closures on South Tryon Street can take place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Sunday, on West Boulevard from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday, and on U.S. 74 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday. Weekend work is also permitted on West Boulevard.
There will not be any offsite detours required, but motorists should allow extra time to drive through the work zones.
