Transportation member Sam Halsey will join Boone Mayor Loretta

Clawson, Watauga County commissioners and other officials in the

Blue Star Memorial Highways are a tribute to the armed forces. Originally started to honor World War II veterans, the program was expanded in 1951 to include all men and women who had served, were serving or would serve in the U.S. armed forces.

The Board of Transportation approved the request from the town of Boone and Watauga County last November.
