COMMENTS: Local law enforcement agencies will join the Governor’s Highway Safety Program to kick off its St. Patrick’s Day “Booze It & Lose It” campaign, which runs March 15-17.
N.C. Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary of Intergovernmental Affairs and Budget Coordination La Nica Allison, GHSP Director Becky Wallace, Director of Forensic Tests for Alcohol Paul Glover and Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram will speak about the importance of making responsible decisions before getting behind the wheel of a car while impaired and unveiling the new BATMobile.
The newly constructed BATMobile (breath-alcohol testing unit) will be available for the media to tour. DWI’s can be processed in the BATMobile. The new 40-foot long unit features two magistrate stations, a full office and surveillance cameras on the back. It also includes six stations where law enforcement officers can perform breath concentration tests.
Officers charged more than 819 motorists with driving while impaired during the 2012 St. Patrick’s Day “Booze It & Lose It” campaign. More than 2,100 stepped-up patrols and checkpoints were conducted.
