Park Road in Rockingham County to Close Monday for Bridge Replacement Friday, March 08, 2013

RALEIGH — Weather permitting, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close Park Road near Thornton Road in Rockingham County beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, March 11 to replace the bridge over Big Beaver Island Creek. Construction of the new bridge is expected to be complete by July 12.

Motorists will use the following signed detour route:
  • Park Road to Beaver Creek Road to Ayersville Road to N.C. 770 back to Park Road.
This project is part of the NCDOT’s $450 million state-funded bridge plan for 2011-13, which calls for preservation, repairs or replacement of bridges statewide.  The existing bridge was built in 1958 and is considered functionally obsolete. This means the bridge is safe, but it needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.

NCDOT reminds motorists to stay alert, watch signs for construction information and obey the posted speed limit.
