RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to replace the bridge on Yarborough Mill Road over Country Line Creek in Caswell County.
The $2 million contract was awarded to Dane Construction Inc. of Mooresville. Work can begin as early as Feb. 25, with completion scheduled for no later than May 15, 2014. Once the bridge is open, the contractor will continue landscaping and vegetation work until Nov. 11, 2014.
The existing bridge was built in 1953 and is considered structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. This means the bridge is safe, but it needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.
This is one of 24 contracts totaling $59.9 million awarded by NCDOT in January for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The bids received on the projects awarded came in about 4.8 percent, or $3.1 million, below NCDOT estimates.
