CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close the loop entrance ramp from Johnston Road (U.S. 521) South to the I-485 Outer Loop in Charlotte from 10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, until 5 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, weather permitting. The work is part of the $83.3 project to widen 9.2 miles of I-485 between I-77 and Rea Road in south Mecklenburg County.
During the closure, crews will be boring along the edge of the ramp’s travel lane to gather information for the future flyover bridge from Johnston Road North to the I-485 Inner Loop. Motorists traveling south on Johnston Road will make a U-turn at John J. Delaney Drive and continue north on Johnston Road to access the ramp to the I-485 Outer Loop.
Contractor Lane Construction has proposed completing the project in December 2014.
