RALEIGH — Westbound
lanes of Western Boulevard in Raleigh will be closed overnight next week where
crews are working on a project to tear down the bridge at Hillsborough Street
and realign that intersection.

Hillsborough Street bridge is 70 years old and is considered functionally
obsolete and structurally deficient. It was safe for travel, but was not built
to current design standards and was unable to properly handle the volume of
traffic it carried. It also required continual maintenance and needed to be
