Closure will be removed by 6 a.m. Thursday
CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will close the access ramp from Poplar Tent Road to I-85 South in Concord beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, weather permitting. The ramp will be open to traffic by 6 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3.
During the closure, crews will be cutting the pavement open to install a drainage pipe. This work will allow standing water on the ramp to be removed so the water won’t freeze on the road surface.
Motorists are advised to use George Liles Parkway as an alternate route.
The work is part of the $125.2 million project to widen 6.8 miles of I-85 from four to eight lanes from south of Bruton Smith Boulevard to north of N.C. 73. The project will also feature diverging diamond interchanges at Poplar Tent Road and N.C. 73. The project is scheduled for completion in November 2013.
