New sections opening as part of I-485 completion project delayed due to rain, rescheduled for Friday afternoon
CHARLOTTE – Several new roads scheduled to open this afternoon on the final segment of the Charlotte Outer Loop project have been postponed. Rainy weather is delaying the N.C. Department of Transportation in completing the work to safely open some new roadways today in the remaining 5.7 mile section of I-485 in northeast Mecklenburg County.
Crews will open the following roadways at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7:
- A new segment of Eastfield Road from N.C. 115 (Old Statesville Road) to Browne Road;
- A new road, Independence Hill Road, will open between N.C. 115 and Eastfield Road; and
- Another new road, Dixon Farm Road, will open to tie in with Eastifeld Road.
New traffic signals will be in place at Independence Hill Road and Eastfield Road. In addition, the traffic signals at Alexanderana Road and Eastfield Road will be removed. The signals will be replaced by stop signs.
Motorists should remain alert and use caution at these intersections, as they will not be in their final traffic pattern.
The $139.5 million project is scheduled for completion in December 2014.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
