NCDOT postpones traffic shift on N.C. 49 widening project in Cabarrus County to Monday and Tuesday Thursday, November 15, 2012

CHARLOTTE –Wet weather is delaying a new traffic pattern on N.C. 49 in Mount Pleasant. Crews with the N.C. Department of Transportation were ready to shift traffic to new northbound lanes tomorrow between Walker Road and Empire Drive, but have decided to postpone the shift until 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19.

Contractor W.C. English Inc. will also shift traffic to new southbound lanes in the same area at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20. Both traffic shifts should be completed by 4 p.m.

The new lanes are part of a $19.4 million contract to improve 2.1 miles of N.C. 49 from east of Walker Road to east of N.C. 73, including the replacement of the N.C. 73 bridge.

The project is scheduled to be completed in June 2014.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
